Overview
Joshua specialises in aviation and general insurance, disputes, and commercial litigation. He has acted for a broad range of clients including domestic and international airlines, helicopter operators, logistics providers, and a broad range of insurers.
He has experience spans aviation accidents, cargo loss claims, foreign operator licensing, and insurance coverage disputes, with work involving proceedings before the High Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal, and international arbitration panels. He has acted in litigation involving fatal aircraft accidents in South Africa.
He has also advised on a range of insurance issues, including property damage, business interruption, trade credit, and hull coverage, as well as liability arising from logistics operations. His experience in advising both insurers and insureds on coverage and enforcement strategy gives him a balanced understanding of market expectations and legal risk.
His commercial grounding is complemented by rotations in Banking and Finance and an undergraduate degree in economics. He has an interest in public and regulatory law and has contributed to claimant-based pro bono litigation.

- A helicopter operator and its liability insurers in High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal proceedings following a fatal helicopter accident. The work included the drafting of Supreme Court legal process.
- Helicopter owners and operators, amongst others, in High Court proceedings against a foreign manufacturer in respect of a fatal aircraft accident in South Africa. Litigation was brought in the courts of South Africa and the USA.
- The Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa and its insurers and reinsurers in respect of a fatal accident resulting in the death of three employees.
- A cargo handler and its liability insurers in relation to missing cargo in South African High Court proceedings.
- An international airline and cargo carrier in South African High Court proceedings. The claim was instituted by the consigner in relation to missing cargo.
- A helicopter lessor and lessee in drafting various operating leases.
- a foreign airline in the collation, lodging and argument of applications for foreign operators permits before the international licensing counsel.
- An international corporation (general aviation) on the acquisition and finance of aircraft, including the registration of various securities.
- Advising a local airline in respect of the potential blacklisting of passengers that contravene its terms of carriage.

- A listed company in relation to various claims under its property damage and business interruption policy following extensive loss sustained at one of its business premises.
- A listed company in relation to the terms and negotiation of a trade credit insurance policy that it sought to procure.
- Hull insurers with coverage advice in relation to a loss in Zambia.
- A major Mozambican electricity supplier in relation to a claim under its property damage policy with insurers, and separately in relation to a claim under its warranty agreement with the manufacturer. The matter is subject to arbitration proceedings in South Africa.
- A major non-life insurance company in arbitral proceedings regarding potential liability in terms of, and the validity and enforceability of, certain sale agreements entered into.
- Liability insurers and a South African security company in relation to South African arbitral proceedings. The claim was instituted by a customs transit shed following the unauthorised removal of a consignment from their premises.
