Overview
Mothobi Moeletsane is a senior associate in the Banking and Finance Department of our Johannesburg office, and a member of the General Finance Practice.
Mothobi has experience with advising lenders and borrowers on secured and syndicated finance, structured finance, project finance, preference share funding, acquisition and real estate finance transactions. He also has experience in debt capital market transactions including the establishment of domestic medium term note as well as note issuances.
Experience
Mothobi has advised:
- The Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) and FirstRand Bank Ltd (acting through its Rand Merchant Bank division) in respect of a syndicated ZAR 4 billion facility made available to Seriti Power(Pty) Ltd) for purposes of financing its existing facilities as a consequence of the reorganisation of the Seriti Group and the establishment of its green energy company.
- Absa Bank Ltd(acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) in respect of a ZAR 200 million term facility and ZAR 50 million revolving credit facility made available to UMS Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd)and Unitrade Management Services(Pty) Ltd), respectively, for purposes of the redemption of preference shares and for purposes of funding their working capital and ongoing general corporate purposes.
- The Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd (acting through its Isle of Man Branch) and The Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) in respect of a USD60 million loan facility advanced to Meridiam Africa Investments 3 SAS, for purposes of the acquisition of Kipeto Energy PLC, the second largest operating wind power project in Kenya which provides clean power to 250 thousand homes.
- Absa Bank Ltd (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) in respect of a USD30 million revolving loan facility and letter of credit facility advanced to Leapfrog Climate Fund, LP (acting through its general partner, Leapfrog Climate, GP LP, itself acting through its general partner Leapfrog Climate GP Ltd) for the borrower’s general working capital expenditure and the acquisition of ongoing investments. The purpose of the transaction was to fund Leapfrogʼs investments in companies combatting climate change in Africa and Asia and providing green tools and technologies to 50 million‑low income people.
- Stanbic Bank Zambia and the Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) on a USD 55.5 million facilities agreement with Africa GreenCo Group (GreenCo) through its newly incorporated Zambian subsidiary GreenCo Finance Solutions Limited (GreenCo FinanceCo) to finance power imports and alleviate Zambia’s energy crisis. GreenCo FinanceCo used the facilities to prepay for over 130MW of electricity imports during the energy crisis in Zambia, alleviating the financial pressure on its clients to prepay for the power they need.
- Toyota Financial Services South Africa (Pty) Ltd in respect of a ZAR 1 billion note issuance.
- Barloworld Limited in respect of a ZAR 1 billion sustainability linked note issuance.
