Overview
Aobakwe has extensive experience advising South African and international financiers, as well as borrowers in respect of the funding and development of renewable projects. Aobakwe has also advised both local and international consortiums on Public Private Partnerships.
Aobakwe’s role involves drafting and reviewing funding and project agreements, managing transaction deliverables and providing ad hoc project finance legal advice. He has a working understanding of South Africa Companies Act having assisted clients with legal due diligence reviews.

Aobakwe has advised:
- EDF Renewables on the drafting of various project documents related to the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).*
- Mulilo Renewable Energy, as Sponsors’ and Developers’ legal advisors in respect of two preferred bidders in the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Programme (“RMIPPPP”), including assisting on the environmental and corporate opinions.*
- A multi-national consortium in relation to the Kampala-Jinja Expressway, including advising on the bankability of the Project Agreements, for the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance of a prospective road in Uganda. *
- Air Liquide in respect of the signing of a new long-term contract to supply 97.5MW. *
- International Finance Corporation on the construction of the Selebi-Phikwe PV Project in Botswana; *
- An international consortium in respect of the Independent Transmission Programme (ITP) on its bid submission for the first Request for Pre-Qualification; *
- WBHO, which advised a consortium bidding for the re-development of six (6) ports of entry in South Africa through private partnership*
