Overview
Micaela is an Associate in the Johannesburg office in the Project Finance team. She has experience in advising local and international clients on domestic and cross-border transactions, which include complex syndicated corporate facilities, finance transactions, as well as energy-related projects in Africa.
She is working on both the project development and finance sides of transactions, and is advising lenders, sponsors, and borrowers in the renewable energy sector. Micaela also has experience in corporate investigations and construction, mining, and energy disputes.
Experience
Micaela has advised:
- Enel Green Power on their development of the 330MWs of wind energy for Sasol and Air Liquide. The project will be one of the largest wind powered wheeling facilities in Africa.
- Rand Merchant Bank (a division of FirstRand Bank Limited) on the 128MW Oya Project, a hybrid project consisting of wind, solar, thermal and battery storage facilities and a preferred bidder under the Risk Mitigation IPP Procurement Programme.*
- Envusa Energy, a joint venture between EDF Renewables and Anglo American, in the structuring and negotiation of the financing and corporate structure for the Envusa platform.
- Rand Merchant Bank (a division of FirstRand Bank Limited) on the financing of the 140MW Umsinde wind power facility developed by African Clean Energy
- Developments to supply renewable energy to Sibanye Energy.
- Rand Merchant Bank (a division of FirstRand Bank Limited) on the financing of the 140MW Khangela wind power facility developed by African Clean Energy
- Developments to supply renewable energy to Richards bay Titanium.
- Seriti Green Energy in respect of its aggregator energy platform.
- Tharisa in respect of its 15-year private power purchase agreements with various customers.
- The Standard Bank of South Africa on the financing and development of Engie Energy Access’ Solar Home System and Mini Grid businesses across Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Azura Power Limited in the preparation and submission of two battery projects bids under the BW3 Battery Energy Storage IPP Procurement Programme (BESIPPPP).
- The Finance Parties, as internal legal adviser, in connection various amendment of loan documents to account for the swap from LIBOR to Term SOFR.
